The Nova Scotia Community College says a 15-million-dollar shortfall in its 2026-27 budget will result in the elimination of 91 positions. In a release, the provincial institution cited rising costs and declining international tuition revenue — as well as a 9.4-million dollar reduction in its provincial operating grant — as reasons for the cuts. It expects 50 management, 15 operational support, and 26 professional support staff to be affected. The college says it will address the cuts through vacancies, term endings and voluntary exits
The Workers’ Compensation Board says Nova Scotia has reached a record low personal injury rate. The provincial body says some of the most dangerous sectors, like construction, are also hitting all-time lows.
It said the manufacturing sector has seen its injury rate by 45 per cent over the last decade. The board says people who do get hurt are going back to work faster and the number of days lost to injury have declined.
A young female Minke Whale was found dead on a beach in Cape John. The Marine Animal Response Society conducted a necropsy and believes the whale likely beached itself and died on the beach.
The Nature Trust of Nova Scotia has launched an online platform offering virtual tours of the province’s protected lands. In a release, the trust says the project allows users to explore the province’s delicate, rarely seen ecosystems through immersive 360-degree images and videos. The first two virtual tours available offer a look at tidal shifts, coastal wildlife and the undersea forests of the Blanche Peninsula.
