New Glasgow Police have charged a 32-year-old woman as a result of their investigation into a fire last week at a duplex on Dalcrombie Drive in New Glasgow. The fire caused significant damage to the duplex, but no injuries were reported. The investigation was lead by the New Glasgow Police Major Crime Unit and New Glasgow Patrol Units with assistance from the Nova Scotia Office of the Fire Marshal. The fire was determined to be an arson and the woman has been charged with Arson – Disregard for Human Life; and Failure to Comply with a Release Order. She has been remanded into custody.

The Municipality of Pictou County says there will be a public hearing on July 6th at 6:30 p.m. during which the public can give feedback about proposed amendments to the Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use Bylaw relating to Agricultural Lands. The meeting will be held in Council Chambers at 46 Municipal Drive, Pictou. Anyone wishing to speak at the Public Hearing should register by contacting the Municipality.
The Liberal government has tabled its legislation to ban children from social media.
Social media platforms would have to block access for kids under the age of 16, unless they put sufficient safeguards in place to get an exemption from the government.
Bill C-34 would also regulate artificial intelligence chatbots.
Culture Minister Marc Miller says the government decided not to block kids from chatbots because chatbots are different from social media.
The Province says it is on track to move all people with disabilities out of institutions by 2028. The commitment follows a 2021 human rights ruling that found systemic discrimination in housing and support services. Government officials say the number of people living in institutions has fallen by 301 over the past three years. A total of 559 people remain in institutions, and Minister Susan Corkum-Greek says they can be transitioned to community-based housing within two years.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has given the premiers an update on U-S trade talks.
Carney updated the premiers on the status of engagement with the Trump administration on the future of CUSMA.
They met Wednesday, and earlier in the day, U-S President Donald Trump told reporters he’s “not looking to renew” CUSMA, indicating the United States will blow past the July 1st renewal deadline.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford says the premiers were told in the meeting that Ottawa would negotiate in good faith.
