Residents had been advised to find a safe location, lock their doors and not approach anyone or pick up hitch hikers. Police were going to remain in the area as the investigation continued, but residents were allowed to resume normal activities.

Police say the incident happened on Saturday with officers called to respond to reports of a man yelling at a family before assaulting another shopper. Halifax Regional Police say they take crimes motivated by hate very seriously and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.
