Canadian tariffs on nearly 28-billion dollars’ worth of U-S goods are now in effect.

The retaliatory levies come in response to 50 per cent duties slapped on a range of Canadian products last month by Washington.

U-S President Donald Trump launched the latest tariffs after Prime Minister Mark Carney suspended trade talks.

Carney accused Trump’s administration of trying to push unacceptable last-minute demands that would have affected Canada’s sovereignty.

Quebec-based aerospace giant Bombardier says it is a strong contributor to the American aerospace industry.

The company defended itself Monday and laid out an extensive U-S footprint after President Donald Trump made the company the latest target of his anti-Canada campaign.

Trump on social media threatened to block sales from Bombardier in the U-S unless the company builds its planes there.

A statement from the aircraft maker says its supply chain includes around 28-hundred American firms in 47 states, and has direct employees and physical sites in numerous states.

Rebuilding efforts are underway in Nova Scotia after flooding on Cape Breton.

Days of torrential rain triggered floods that destroyed roads, washed out bridges and are believed to have caused one death.

Public Works Minister Fred Tilley says hundreds of provincial employees and local contractors are working to restore the entirety of Cape Breton Island’s road network.

That, he says, is expected within the coming days.
