
The price of gas at local pumps was predicted to increase by 4 cents overnight. It’s actually up by 4.7 cents, meaning an increase over the past 2 weeks of just under 10 cents a litre. So you’ll now be paying $111.7 for regular self-serve. Diesel is more expensive by 3.6 cents, hitting $107.1 in the local pricing zone.

The New Glasgow house fire that we told you about yesterday morning, just as it was breaking out, ended up affecting children. The couple who lived in that home at Summer and Pine Streets have four young children, and the Red Cross has helping out as they look to keep a roof over their heads in this January weather.

Nova Scotia has 32 known COVID-19 infections in the latest update. With 6 new cases, 3 are in the Northern Zone and are close contacts of people previously infected. The other three are either travel or previous case contacts and are in the Central Zone.
They’re doing more mobile COVID testing at the Community College in Truro again today. That Drop-In runs from 9 until 2:30. If you’re looking to be tested, they’re asking that you register at the Mobile Health Unit vans in the parking lot.
In New Brunswick, they had similar COVID numbers to Nova Scotia just two weeks ago. But the caseload there has been skyrocketing, with 246 active cases this morning, and 23 new cases. The New Brunswick Medical Health Officer is referring to the COVID count in Quebec and Maine, when she says “our neighbours’ houses are on fire and the hot embers are falling onto our roof.” In Aroostock County, Maine, for instance, there are currently more than 700 infections. It hugs the border from Central to Northern New Brunswick.
Canada should start getting two million doses of COVID-19 vaccines delivered every week during the month of April.
Maj.-Gen. Dany Fortin is in charge, and says the delivery schedules for vaccines from both Pfizer and Moderna are now available until the end of February.
By the end of this week Fortin expects more than 929,000 doses will have arrived in Canada, and almost half a million more by the end of this month, and 1.9 million doses in February.
That will leave 2.7 million doses to be delivered in March to get to the six million doses the companies have promised by then, and then a huge ramp-up in April.

A 36-year-old Truro man will be staying behind bars until his next court appearance on January 19th. That after 70 charges laid against Brian Laurie Maxwell in connection with a string of break and enters targeting sheds and garages.
Maxwell was arrested Sunday, with several stolen items uncovered when officers searched his home address.
Sobeys is looking to expand its online services over the coming months. With a major company headquarters in Pictou County, officials say the the online ordering and curbside system has gone well at the Aberdeen Store and others in Spryfield and Dartmouth. It’s called VOILA, and one of the reasons Pictou County was chosen to test it out was the large number of employees at Stellarton Headquarters – people who were able to add to the number of early users. No additional store locations have been announced yet, but so far, ordering in advance and choosing the pick-up time for your Sobey’s groceries using VOILA is being called a success.
