GAS PRICES UP IN NEW BRUNSWICK

Gas prices are up in New Brunswick this morning, while diesel took a small drop. Regular self-serve gas had an increase of 2.9 cents. Diesel is down 1.9 cents per litre N.S. sets its fuel prices at midnight tonight
PROVINCIAL TRAFFIC AUTHORITY TO REVIEW POLICY OF SPEED DISPLAY SIGNS

The Provincial Traffic Authority says it will review its policy regarding the placement of speed display signs. Municipality of Pictou County Council wrote the province asking that it change its policy on electronic signs so they could be placed in more areas throughout the County. In response to Council’s letter, the Provincial Traffic Authority said that there may be benefits with more location flexibility and it will review its policy to see if changes are needed.
2 NEW CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN N.S.

Two new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Nova Scotia on Wednesday. The two cases are in Central Zone. One is related to travel outside of Atlantic Canada. The person has been self-isolating, as required. The other is a close contact of a previously reported case. Nova Scotia has 37 active cases of COVID-19.
N.S. Proposes Mandatory Registry for Continuing Care Assistants

On Wednesday, Health Minister Zach Churchill tabled legislation that if passed would require Nova Scotia’s continuing care assistants to register annually in order to work. Currently continuing care assistants can register voluntarily, but the uptake has been poor. Making the current voluntary registry mandatory is a recommendation of the Expert Advisory Panel on Long-Term Care.
The province says it’s amending the Municipal Government Act to modernize local government operations. The change announced today, will allow municipalities and villages to hold virtual council meetings. Virtual meetings have been ongoing during the COVID-19 pandemic under the provincial state of emergency. The amendment supports councils holding virtual meetings once the state of emergency is removed.
Police have arrested a 36 year old man after receiving multiple complaints about graffiti on churches and a business, along with multiple fire alarms being tampered with in the Truro area this week. The man, of no fixed address, was taken into custody on four counts of mischief and is also charged under the Fire Protection Act. He’s is scheduled to appear in Truro Provincial Court next month.

Winners will be selected based on the positive impact their contributions have had on the broader community. Each winner will receive a framed necktie signed by Dr. Strang. Nomination deadline is April 19.
