Gas prices went up in Nova Scotia overnight, rising by 2.9 cents per litre. Locally, regular self serve gasoline costs 135.7 cents per litre. Diesel costs 125.3 cents per litre after a 3.5 cents per litre increase

Nova Scotia reported five new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday and 60 active infections across the province. Health officials say three of the five cases have been traced to travel or to previously known infections. The source of the remaining two cases is still under investigation. About 71 per cent of all Nova Scotians are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and 78 per cent have received at least one dose.
The Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit has charged two people with drug and firearm offences. On Wednesday night, with the help of Stellarton Police, they executed a Search Warrant at a home on Hudson Street in Stellarton. As a result, police seized a quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine, hydromorphone, digital scales, cash, two (2) firearms and ammunition. A 45 year old man and a 34 year old woman were arrested and are facing charges that include Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking; Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking; Possession of hydromorphone for the purpose of trafficking; Unsafe storage of a firearm; and Unsafe storage of ammunition.
Nova Scotia’s minister of community services wants the province to have a child and youth advocate. Karla MacFarlane, the Pictou West MLA, says she will be bringing the concept forward for discussion during the government’s mandate, although she gave no specifics or timelines. MacFarlane says it’s important to give young people a voice and a connection directly to government.
New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and P-E-I are among the provinces with dedicated child advocate offices.
