N.S. reports 3 deaths, 99 new cases of COVID-19 over weekend

On Monday, the province reported three deaths related to COVID-19. Two people – a man and woman, both in their 80s – were residents of the East Cumberland Lodge long-term care home in Pugwash. Also in Northern Zone, a woman in her 60s has died — she was not a resident of a long-term care home. Nova Scotia also reported 99 new cases of COVID-19 and 109 recoveries since the last update on Friday. Eight more residents and four additional staff members at East Cumberland Lodge in Pugwash have tested positive for COVID-19. A total of 30 residents and eight staff members at the home have now tested positive. Nova Scotia now has 265 active cases of COVID-19. Of those, 16 people are in hospital, including seven in ICU.
Over the past three days, 11 schools were notified of an exposure at their school. Included on that list of schools with exposures is New Glasgow Academy. A list of schools with exposures is available online: https://backtoschool.ednet.ns.ca/school-exposures
Mobile testing clinic in local area today

Nova Scotia Health says there will be a Community Covid-19 Testing Event at New Glasgow Academy Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. Book an appointment online at nshealth.ca, drop-ins based on availability. Testing is free and is open to students, staff, and families.
Alert Ready system to be tested on Wednesday

On Wednesday, Alert Ready will conduct a Canada-wide test of the National Public Alerting System. Nova Scoitians will receive one test message from the the province’s emergency management organization over radio, television, radio, and wireless devices at 1:55pm.
Ferry crossings cancelled for the day due to weather conditions on the strait

A disruption to ferry service operating between Caribou and Wood Islands once again today. Due to weather conditions on the Northumberland Strait all of the crossings for today, (Tuesday November 16) have been cancelled. Service is expected to resume Wednesday morning, weather permitting.
Pictou County Regional Enterprise Network (PCREN) names Scott Ferguson its new CEO

The Pictou County Regional Enterprise Network, an economic and business development organization for the region, has named Scott Ferguson its new Chief Executive Officer. Ferguson brings more than 30 years of experience in economic development. Most notably, he was CEO of the World Trade Centres Association (New York).
NSCC students to tackle Premier’s challenge during virtual innovation event

This Friday, more than 200 Nova Scotia Community College students will participate in the 2021 Challenge Nova Scotia Competition – a pan-provincial event that calls on NSCC students to develop innovative solutions to a social challenge issued to them by the Premier. At the beginning of the fully-online event, Premier Houston and NSCC President Don Bureaux will reveal this year’s secret challenge question. Teams of three to five students will then develop their solutions and create 90-second explainer videos. In the days after the event, the videos will be reviewed by a panel of judges.
