A former Supreme Court of Canada judge working with the 2020 Nova Scotia mass shooting inquiry says he’s worried the federal Justice Department has been discouraging witnesses from coming forward with relevant evidence.
In an August 5th letter to the department, Thomas Cromwell cited advice given to Nova Scotia R-C-M-P Chief Superintendent Chris Leather before he testified in front of the inquiry in July.
Cromwell says he was “deeply concerned” by Leather’s claim that Justice Department lawyers suggested he take a “reactive posture.”
Leather said he had been advised not to proactively disclose an April 2020 meeting he attended with R-C-M-P Commissioner Brenda Lucki or the emails leading up to the meeting.
