The head of the R-C-M-P says she wasn’t aware for several months that a report documenting morale problems among officers in Nova Scotia had been completed.
Commissioner Brenda Lucki took the witness stand on Tuesday at an inquiry examining how a gunman driving a replica police car carried out 22 murders over 13 hours in April 2020.
The wellness report was completed in September 2021, but Lucki only became aware that it was completed in June of this year.
The inquiry also released a transcript of an August 4th interview Lucki gave to inquiry lawyers, during which she said the force must become a more transparent organization.
The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board confirmed Tuesday morning that it invoked the interrupter clause and approved an increase in diesel prices, which took effect yesterday.
Diesel prices went up by 7.1 cents per litre to 190.2 cents per litre locally.
Gasoline prices were not affected.
Premier Tim Houston and the other Atlantic Premiers met Tuesday and attended the signing in Stephenville, Newfoundland of a new hydrogen pact between Canada and Germany, which will kick-start a transatlantic hydrogen supply chain.
The first hydrogen deliveries are expected in just three years.
Under the agreement, Canada is largely responsible for ramping up production of hydrogen and Germany will mainly focus on a shipping corridor to transport it across the Atlantic.
Nova Scotia is reporting its first case of monkeypox involving a resident of the province.
The Health Department says the person contracted the virus while travelling outside Nova Scotia, and that their symptoms appeared upon return.
Nova Scotia says it’s working with the federal government to receive more supply of the Imvamune vaccine, which helps protect against the virus.
The province reported in late July that two cases of monkeypox were identified locally, involving people who are not from Nova Scotia.
Central Nova MP and Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has announced a total repayable investment of $700,000 for Steinhart Distillery. Of that investment,
$500,000 will help Steinhart build an outdoor stage and renovate a barn to provide a venue for weddings and indoor concerts.
It will also construct a multipurpose building for year-round use by community groups.
The other $200,000 will allow Steinhart to purchase specialized equipment to produce ready-to-drink cocktails to meet growing market demand.
