A Nova Scotia R-C-M-P corporal is due in Pictou provincial court on September 26th to face charges of assault and choking.
The Serious Incident Response Team, the provincial agency that investigates police, announced the charges against Corporal Mark Kellock yesterday in relation to the incident in February.
An inspector in the Northeast Nova district referred to the allegations as a case of “an on-duty excessive use of force allegation.”
He says the criminal charges are alarming and the force takes them seriously.

Federal health officials say there should be enough of Moderna’s bivalent COVID-19 vaccine for every adult in Canada this fall and winter.
Health Canada has approved the shot, which targets both the original strain of the novel coronavirus and the specific Omicron variant.
The public health agency is urging Canadians to get whatever booster shot they can if it has been more than six months since their last shot.
Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos says the willingness of Canadians to get boosted will be a crucial part of fending off another potentially large wave of infections in the fall.
Bookings for booster vaccines are now open in Nova Scotia for children between five and 11-years-old.
The province says the first appointments will be available on Tuesday.
Officials also reported an additional five deaths due to the virus in the latest weekly report released yesterday.
There was an average daily count of 187 COVID-19 lab-confirmed cases between August 23rd and 29th _ a figure down from an average of 194 cases the previous week.
