The Canadian Hurricane Centre says that Hurricane Fiona is expected to become a large and potent post-tropical storm that will affect Atlantic Canada by Saturday.
Fiona’s track remains uncertain, but the hurricane centre says its impact will be very broad.
Hurricane Fiona is expected to merge with a trough and transform into a hurricane force post tropical cyclone on Saturday.
The combination of Fiona and the trough will produce very heavy rain beginning Thursday night.
Flooding and washed out roads are likely in some areas. Strong to severe wind gusts are expected to begin impacting the region on Friday peaking on Saturday.
The Nova Scotia government and other provincial governments across Atlantic Canada are warning residents to review their emergency plans before the arrival of Hurricane Fiona in the region.
Governments are reminding residents to ensure roads, ditches and drains are clear of debris.
The provinces are also advising residents to check emergency plans are up to date, and they’re fully stocked with at least three days of supplies.
The inquiry into the mass shooting in Nova Scotia is expecting to hear from more lawyers who represent victims’ families today with their final oral submissions.
The lawyers for the families of victims Gina Goulet, Aaron Tuck, Jolene Oliver and Emily Tuck are scheduled to give their comments.
Yesterday, lawyers representing the majority of the family members of the victims, as well as some residents of Portapique, focused their comments on mistakes made by the R-C-M-P in their response during the April 18th and 19th, 2020 killings of 22 people.
The public inquiry is also expected to hear from a lawyer who represents the killer’s spouse, Lisa Banfield, and from a lawyer who represents womens’ shelters.
The New Glasgow Regional Police Department is seeking community feedback as it implements the research phase of a project that will clarify the department’s core values.
Deputy Chief Ryan Leil says that having clear organizational values ensures that all members of New Glasgow Regional Police are working towards the same goals and desired outcomes.
He adds that establishing core values also allows for consistent decision making across the department, particularly with ambiguous situations or incomplete information.
The project is in its research phase, and residents can take the survey by using the link that can be found on the New Glasgow Regional Police Department’s social media pages.
