Power is continuing to be restored throughout the county as assistance from the United States and other provinces have come to help Nova Scotia Power in their efforts to get service restored for everyone.
As of this morning a little over 100,000 people in Nova Scotia are still without power.
A little under 17,000 of those customers are in the Pictou County area.
The Reliability of Atlantic Canada’s telecommunications companies are being questioned after landlines and cell service were down for the many throughout the province after Fiona swept through the Atlantic provinces.
Provincial NDP leader Claudia Chender said that there are a lot of vulnerable seniors living alone in the province and communication is their lifeline.
On Sunday during a media briefing, Geoff Moore, director of network operations for Bell, said they did what they could to prepare for the storm.
Moore said that while their service sites rely on power, they do have back up batteries in case of outages.
Moore explained that once the batteries ran out, they had teams working to provide generator backups to the sites to restore services as quickly as possible.
King Charles III has made a statement in regards to the devastation that was caused by Hurricane Fiona.
He says in the statement that He and his wife were most concerned to hear about the devastation caused by storm Fiona and wanted to send their profound sympathy to the people of Atlantic Canada. They also want to send their deep appreciation for the first responders, military, and community members who are doing so much to support others in this very challenging period.
The Pictou County Trails Association has announced that all recreational trails in Pictou County are closed to the public until safety assessments can be conducted.
PCTA President, Clifford MacDonald said that most trails are impassable due to debris and fallen trees, and there are still a lot of trees leaning that have the potential to fall and cause damage or serious injury.
MacDonald also warns that there are downed power lines lying across some of the Jitney trail access points in the County section. The public is asked to please stay away at this time.

Phone lines are open from 10:00am to 6:00 pm today.
They are advising people call if you are experiencing an emergency related to the recent hurricane.
They can help people who are trapped in their homes or driveways because of fallen trees and debris or have no access to food, water.
