A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Pictou County.
Snow, heavy at times, will persist through today, while strong winds will cause blowing snow and reduced visibility.
Upwards of 20 to 40cm of snow is expected through this evening with winds gusting to 90 to 100kh.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is not committing to a sit-down meeting with premiers on health care.
In a year-end interview with The Canadian Press, Trudeau says he’s ready and willing to offer more money to the provinces for health care, but he wants to see improvements to the system as a result.
The provinces have been asking the federal government to pay for a greater share of health-care costs.
Trudeau’s comments come as New Democrat leader Jagmeet Singh vowed to pull his party’s confidence-and-supply agreement if there is no federal action to address the health-care crisis.
The Nova Scotia RCMP is under new leadership with the recent arrival of Assistant Commissioner Dennis Daley to the province.
In his 34-year career with the RCMP, Assistant Commissioner Daley has served in various capacities, including 29 years of combined service in the Maritimes.
Assistant Commissioner Daley joined the RCMP in 1988.
He served as a general duty investigator from 1989 to 1995 at the New Minas Detachment, as Operations Officer in Halifax District from 2011 until 2013, and as the Nova Scotia RCMP’s Administration and Personnel Officer from 2013 to 2017.
Nova Scotia RCMP conducted 29 checkpoints across the province on National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day, checking over 1,500 vehicles.
RCMP officers arrested 4 impaired drivers, issued 4 provincial driving suspensions for impaired driving, charged 1 distracted driver and charged 2 drivers for seat belt violations.
RCMP say that you can expect to see checkpoints throughout the province at all times of day and night this holiday season.
Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer, Dr. Robert Strang, is among five people appointed to the Order of Nova Scotia this year.
Lieutenant-Governor Arthur LeBlanc says the contributions of all five recipients have made long-lasting impressions on the province’s historic record, cultural identity, economy and well-being.
Strang is being recognized for his leadership throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Other recipients include Cape Breton songwriter Kenzie MacNeil who died last year, author and historian John Boileau, Hope for Wildlife founder Hope Swinimer and Rustum Southwell, founding executive director of the Black Business Initiative.
