Children aged five to 11 in Nova Scotia are eligible, as of yesterday (Tuesday), for a booster dose of Pfizer’s bivalent COVID-19 vaccine that targets the Omicron variant.
The province says it’s the only bivalent vaccine currently authorized in Canada as a booster dose for children in that age group.
Health and Wellness notes that only a single booster shot is currently recommended for younger children but says those who have already received the original Pfizer vaccine as a booster are still expected to be well-protected.
It also says parents of children aged 5 to 11 who are at high risk for severe COVID-19 disease and have already received a booster can speak to their health-care provider about their child receiving a bivalent dose.
