The Nova Scotia government says it has recruited 65 people from a refugee camp in Kenya to work in the province as continuing-care assistants.
Health Minister Michelle Thompson says the recruitment effort was conducted through a federal program that identifies refugees with much-needed skills who meet regional and provincial immigration requirements.
Thompson says filling health-care worker vacancies is one of the province’s biggest challenges.
The government says the 65 Kenyans who were made conditional job offers are expected to begin arriving by the middle of this year.
Nova Scotia residents who have received a cancer-related mastectomy or lumpectomy will now get more help with the cost of mastectomy prostheses.
The rebate now provides up to $300 per prosthesis every two years, an increase from $150, with a maximum total rebate of $600.
For people who earn under $30,000 a year, the updated rebate provides up to $450 per prosthesis every two years, an increase from $300, with a maximum of $750.
There is also a $75 rebate available for the purchase of a supporting bra, an increase from $40.
Historian Gwynne Dyer, author of several books that examine wars that have afflicted the world — is scheduled to speak next week at St. Francis Xavier University.
Dyer is part of the university’s distinguished speakers series, which is looking at the topic of “War in the 21st Century.”
The historian is scheduled to speak Tuesday night at 8 p-m in Mulroney Hall on the campus in Antigonish.
Dyer is expected to talk about the war in Ukraine.

Canada defeated the United States 6-2 last night to advance to the World Junior Hockey Championship gold-medal game.
