She was first elected in 2021 but says in a statement that she is stepping down to “stretch out the legacy of changemakers” and lift up new voices.
Simmonds says she will spend the next few months working out what comes next and will continue to support initiatives tied to anti-racism, equity and diversity.
The Nova Scotia government has appointed Christine Brennan to a five-year term as the province’s ombudsperson.
Brennan is a former deputy ombudsperson and had been serving as acting ombudsperson following the retirement of William A. Smith last year.
