Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the federal government is prepared to spend up to 44-million dollars to support a major expansion and modernization of Michelin’s tire manufacturing facility in Bridgewater.
Trudeau was at the factory on Tuesday for the announcement of the expansion — which he says will secure existing jobs and create new ones.
Premier Tim Houston says Nova Scotia’s biggest employer also stands to receive a provincial tax credit of about 61.3-million dollars over five years, based on its planned investment of 302.7-million dollars.
Michelin currently employs about 36-hundred people at its manufacturing plants in Bridgewater, Granton and Waterville, and the expansion is expected to add 70 more jobs.
Some of the money will also go to those Michelin plants in Granton and Waterville.

Police have issued a warning about a new extortion scam circulating in Nova Scotia that attempts to intimidate and pressure people into providing money.
Police say they have recently received a number of reports of scammers calling or texting victims — accusing them of attempting to use an escort service and demanding payment.
They say the scammers claim to be members of a “cartel” and threaten to harm the victim or their loved ones if they don’t deliver the money.
Police say the scam has circulated in other parts of the country and anyone receiving a call or who is concerned for their safety should contact them.
