The Nova Scotia College of Nursing says a streamlined licensing process for out-of-province and some international nurses has led to a flood of new applications.
Deputy registrar Douglas Bungay says the college has received more than 10-thousand-500 applications since March.
That’s when the provincial regulator announced it would fast-track applications for nurses trained in Canada and seven countries where the scope of practice is similar to Nova Scotia.
Nursing applicants who are in good standing can now be licensed in Nova Scotia after passing one national nursing exam, which shaves months off the registration process.
