The Department of Natural Resources says the Barrington Lake wildfire in Shelburne County is now under control.
The department says the final size of the fire is about 235 square kilometres, adding that It is not expected to spread.
Five firefighters from PEI have been helping battle the blaze, and firefighters from the department, the military, Newfoundland and Labrador, and the U-S are still on the scene doing mop up.
Officials say mop up means firefighters start at the perimeter of the fire and advance toward the centre in a grid pattern to systematically extinguish hot spots.
The province has lifted its burn ban and remaining restrictions on travel and activities in the woods.
The province-wide burn ban, announced May 29th, was on top of restrictions that have been in place since March 15th.
Burning is still not allowed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., but now it may be allowed after 2 p.m. depending on local conditions.
Officials say despite the lifting of the ban, the fine for burning when it’s prohibited is still 25-thousand dollars.
Investigations are underway after a rural bridge in central Nova Scotia collapsed as a tractor-trailer was driving over it.
Police got a call Tuesday morning from the driver after the bridge on Lake Road fell into the French River.
The driver was uninjured.
While engineers look into the bridge collapse, Service Nova Scotia will determine whether the truck was allowed on the structure.
