The ferry that travels between Nova Scotia and eastern Prince Edward Island will remain out of service this morning.
Northumberland Ferries says due to the M-V Confederation’s ongoing mechanical issues, it has cancelled the 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. crossings from PEI, and the 8:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. crossings from Caribou.
The company says an update is expected today on the remaining two sailings of the day.
The cancellations leave the Confederation Bridge as the link between the mainland and PEI for the time being.
The Pictou Mayor has voiced his frustrations over repeated breakdowns with the ferry, knocking it out of service between Nova Scotia and PEI.

Defence Minister Anita Anand says Ottawa is implementing recommendations brought forward as part of an apology for the systemic hate and racism experienced by an all-Black Canadian unit that served in the First World War.
The apology issued one year ago to descendants of the No. 2 Construction Battalion’s members included eight recommendations developed through community consultations.
Anand says the recommendations are key to building a more inclusive culture free of racism, discrimination and biases.
A parade was held on Sunday in Pictou led by the 4 Engineer Support Regiment based out of Gagetown, N.B., which retains the historical link with No. 2 Construction Battalion, and the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia.
The ongoing heat wave gripping most of Canada is expected to begin easing in parts of the region today.

Temperatures were expected to reach close to 30 degrees yesterday in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, while humidex values were closer to 37 degrees.
