Nova Scotia is sending help to fight large, out-of-control wildfires in Yukon.
Twenty Department of Natural Resources and Renewables firefighters and one agency representative left Halifax Stanfield Airport yesterday to aid the Yukon in the battle against the wildfires.
Tory Rushton, Minister of Natural Resources and Renewables said “We had a busy start to our wildfire season. At the moment, the province’s conditions and our resources are at a manageable level, so we’re now able to answer the call to help our colleagues in Yukon.”
The Department will continue monitoring conditions and make sure sufficient resources are maintained in the province. Crews could return early if they are needed at home.
Nova Scotians will continue to benefit from community-based projects that spark innovation and build stronger, more collaborative regions, through investments from the Community Economic Development Fund.
The fund, now open for applications, supports projects that foster economic development and growth; increase innovation, productivity and competitiveness; and prioritize both the economic and social well-being of communities.
Industry organizations, regional associations and other community-based organizations that benefit the public can apply for funding.
Applications will be accepted until August 31, and the fund will open to applications again in December.
Nova Scotia health is making changes to their masking requirements in facilities.
Effective today, July 17th, Masking will no longer be required upon entry to NS Health facilities, in common areas, and most ambulatory, day surgery, and clinic areas.
Masking will continue to be required for health care workers while providing direct patient care on inpatient units, emergency departments and ambulatory areas that provide care to patient populations who are immunocompromised or at highest risk of severe outcomes of COVID-19 infection.
Masks will not be required in hallways or at nursing stations in acute care settings or emergency departments but must be worn when providing direct care.
The North American Indigenous Games kicked off with their opening ceremonies last night in Halifax. Nova Scotia’s First appearance will be in 16U Male Soccer and 19U Female soccer both at 9am.
