Yesterday, Central Nova MP and Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Sean Fraser, announced that many organizations in Pictou County will receive funding through the Community Services Recovery Fund.
The fund is a one-time $400 million investment, was announced in the 2021 budget to help community service organizations adapt, modernize, and build internal organizational capacity. The fund aims to strengthen the charitable and non-profit sector in Canada as it supports post-pandemic recovery.
The organizations that received some of this funding include Pictou County Volunteer Ground Search and Rescue, Tearmann Society for Abused Women, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pictou County, Pictou County Women’s Resource and Sexual Assault Centre, Royal Canadian Legion, deCoste Entertainment Centre Society, and Summer Street Industries.
Public health announced that the legionaire’s disease outbreak in New Glasgow is officially over.
In a news release issued Tuesday morning, the department said there have been no new cases in several weeks. Ten cases were previously confirmed by laboratory testing, and 22 were considered probable.
Legionnaires’ disease rarely causes severe illness, but risks increase for people who are older, who smoke or have a chronic health condition.
Some residents of Glen Haven Manor were hospitalized last month with a severe form of pneumonia because of the outbreak.
The Province is returning almost $17 million in provincial income tax to Nova Scotia seniors through its Guaranteed Income Supplement rebate program.
More than 11,000 seniors who receive the federal government’s Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) will get their provincial income tax back.
The program will provide eligible seniors a minimum refund payment of $50 and maximum of $10,000, depending on how much they have paid in provincial income tax.
Seniors do not have to apply for this refund, but they must file a tax return each year. Those who did not file a return in this taxation year, but who are eligible, can still receive the refund when they file a tax return.

The announcement will take place at Hector Heritage Quay in Pictou at 10:00am.
