R-C-M-P are seeking information from the public after a hit and run where an officer was struck at the side of Highway 3-11, north of Truro.
At the time of incident, the uniformed officer had exited his vehicle when he observed a suspicious school bus parked at the side of the highway.
Police say a man in the bus told the officer the vehicle was not his and refused to identify himself before taking off on foot.
Seconds later, the officer was struck by a person driving another vehicle.
Investigators say the injured officer was able to take cover behind the bus when the man got in the second vehicle and again tried to strike the officer.
With students across the province now back in school, the Nova Scotia RCMP is urging motorists to be extra cautious during their daily commutes.
Failure to stop for a school bus with its red lights flashing could result in a fine of $410 and six demerit points on your license.
For new drivers, 6 or more points results in a 6-month driving suspension.
Drivers can also be charged for passing a school bus with amber warning lights flashing.
The fine for failing to pass with caution is $295.
Nova Scotia’s only French-language university continues to encourage survivors of alleged historical sexual assaults on its campus to come forward, as it faces accusations it ignored rape allegations from students.
Last week, the R-C-M-P said it had become aware of more than 50 alleged incidents of sexual assault at the Université Sainte-Anne campus between 2015 and 2019.
A petition on a website called “S-A Change Now” is demanding the school improve student safety by installing more outdoor lights throughout the campus and dedicating an office or staff member to receive sexual assault complaints.
A Sainte-Anne spokeswoman says the university is taking the allegations seriously.
