Gasoline prices went down overnight in Nova Scotia, while diesel prices rose. Gas prices decreased by 5.1 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at 162.8 cents per litre locally. Diesel prices increased by 3.2 cents per litre, leaving the minimum pump price for diesel at 202.5 cents per litre in the local area.
The RCMP says the 83-year-old woman and 86-year-old man who were reported missing yesterday from Mountain Road, Pictou County, have been found safe.

Canadian health ministers wrapped up their meetings in Prince Edward Island Thursday with a plan to grow the health workforce. At the conclusion of the meetings, Federal Health Minister Mark Holland said that Canada intends to tackle its health workforce shortage by making it easier for nurses and doctors to practice in other provinces. That includes streamlining credentials for internationally trained health workers and the creation of a new nursing retention program.
The provincial government has introduced updated legislation that it says will hold opioid manufacturers more accountable for their actions. Health Minister Michelle Thompson says the amended legislation will make pharmaceutical consultants subject to potential legal action.As well, she says it will support a proposed class-action lawsuit launched in 2018 by British Columbia against the makers and distributors of opioids. The lawsuit accuses them of downplaying the harmful effects of this group of painkillers, misrepresenting the risk of addiction and failing to mention side effects and withdrawal symptoms.
Professional and volunteer first responders in Nova Scotia will soon have a day that recognizes their commitment to protecting people. Premier Tim Houston introduced proposed legislation yesterday that would proclaim May 1st of each year as First Responders’ Day. He says the bill specifically recognizes those who work in health care, law enforcement and emergency services.
