The Truro area is set to play host to the inaugural Nova Scotia Stampede, which kicks off in Fall 2024. Premier Tim Houston made the announcement on Tuesday.
The Nova Scotia Stampede is a family-friendly festival with the excitement of a world class professional rodeo and 4-H Nova Scotia agricultural showcasing.
Those attending can expect a weekend filled with pro rodeo events such as saddle bronc, bareback riding, bull riding, and barrel racing while layered with live musical entertainment, Nova Scotia grown food, and the 44th annual 4-H Nova Scotia Provincial Show.
This new major event is expected to generate an economic impact of $6-8-million for the region.
Canada’s housing minister says the federal government is going to start consultations next month to develop a catalogue of pre-approved home designs.
Central Nova MP Sean Fraser says the initiative is patterned on a post-Second World War-era program — but the new catalogue will focus on small to medium-scale residential properties including student housing and seniors residences.
A set of recommendations for the federal government — including developing such a catalogue — was released in a report this summer co-authored by housing expert Mike Moffatt.
The Nova Scotia S-P-C-A says a 68-year-old Canso woman faces charges in connection with allowing 11 animals to be in distress.
The animal welfare organization says it received a complaint in September and found 10 dogs and one cat living in a home in unsanitary conditions.
Orders were issued and an inspection on November 7th resulted in the animals being seized.
The S-P-C-A says the woman is scheduled to appear in court in Antigonish on February 28th.
Nova Scotians in areas policed by the RCMP, can now report certain non-emergency crimes online. Those crimes include:
• Mischief/damage to property or vehicle (under $5,000)
• Hit-and-run of an unoccupied vehicle/property (under $5,000)
• Theft under $5,000 (including bicycles and theft from vehicles)
• Lost property (including licence plates and registration tags)

Statistics Canada figures show maple syrup production is at a five-year low in Canada, due to severe storms and changing temperatures.
Canadian maple producers harvested 47.4 million litres of syrup in 2023, down 40.1 per cent from a record 79.1 million litres the year before.
