There’s a Special Weather statement that’s been issued warning of prolonged winter weather over the next few days. This evening into Monday. Environment Canada says there are two periods of potentially significant snowfall in store for this weekend. Snow will begin this evening and persist into Saturday evening with accumulations possibly reaching 20 cm or more in some areas by late Saturday. A brief break in the snow is expected Saturday evening into Sunday morning, before intensifying once again throughout the day on Sunday and persisting through Monday. There is still a high degree of uncertainty in snowfall accumulations for this second round of snow but amounts could be very significant in some areas. For Pictou County, 20 cm is possible through tonight and Saturday.
You’re paying more for regular gasoline and diesel today. Regular gasoline increased overnight by 1.3 cents per litre.
Diesel prices increased by 4.4 cents per litre.
Nova Scotia’s police watchdog agency says it is investigating an arrest that resulted in a man sustaining a fractured facial bone. The Serious Incident Response Team says R-C-M-P were called to a domestic disturbance complaint in Sunnyville on Tuesday. The agency says the man would not leave the residence after he was arrested and the officers ended up striking him. The man was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with an orbital wall fracture.
A Nova Scotia legislature committee appears to have struck a compromise on measures to ensure the safety of constituency assistants.
The House of Assembly’s management commission has agreed to have legislature staff look at having the House assume security costs rather than the costs coming from M-L-A office budgets.
The opposition Liberals and N-D-P had been pushing for a second constituency assistant in each office for safety reasons.
The issue was taken up after the constituency assistant to Liberal M-L-A Brendan Maguire was violently attacked in December.
A church has been fined five-thousand-dollars for violating Nova Scotia’s restrictions on faith gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Court documents say the Weston Christian Fellowship Church in Berwick held a service on May 9th, 2021 with more than the permitted number of participants. A provincial court judge found the church guilty and accepted the fine agreed to by the Crown and defence counsel.
