The R-C-M-P is expected to provide an update today on progress the national police force has made in responding to the inquiry into the 2020 Nova Scotia mass shooting.
The report from the R-C-M-P commissioner comes three months after a self-imposed deadline came and went, and almost one year after the public inquiry released its final report.
The federal-provincial Mass Casualty Commission issued 130 non-binding recommendations to improve public safety where 33 of the proposals apply directly to the R-C-M-P, and the Mounties say another 55 will require work with other police services.
Earlier this month, the R-C-M-P’s website was quietly updated to show it has responded to two key recommendations.
A 25-year-old Salmon River man is facing charges for alleged sex offences involving multiple underage youth. Meteghan R-C-M-P say investigators found a suspect had allegedly contacted girls online and lured them into romantic relationships. Police say there may be more alleged victims and they’re encouraging anyone with information to contact them.

Trudeau pushed back in a letter against seven premiers, including Nova Scotia’s Tim Houston, who want him to cancel next week’s planned federal carbon price increase, which will see the price jump from 65- to 80-dollars per tonne. That’s expected to add about three cents to the cost of a litre of gas.
Federal Heritage Minister Pascale St-Onge has announced that more than $1.3 million from the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund has been awarded to eight organizations in Nova Scotia. The funds will support performances, exhibits, workshops, and more, showcasing the province’s rich artistic heritage.
