Gasoline prices rose while diesel prices fell overnight in Nova Scotia. Gasoline prices increased by 2.0 cents per litre, leaving the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at 173.3 cents per litre in the local area. Diesel prices dropped by 1.8 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for diesel at 189.2 cents per litre locally.
The RCMP is investigating after someone broke into a home on Munroe Avenue Extension on Westville Road in Pictou on March 26th between 10:30-11:30 a.m. They left with several pieces of jewelry, including diamond rings and a gold pocket watch. Officers are asking the public to check their vehicle dash camera footage if they were in the area within that timeframe. Anyone with information is asked to contact Pictou County District RCMP or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
Police are asking for the public’s help as the R-C-M-P investigates a shooting in Aulds Cove that left one man injured. The Mounties in Antigonish County say officers were dispatched to a home on Highway 4 on Wednesday around 5:50 a-m. Once at the scene, officers found a wounded 37-year-old man, who was taken to hospital for treatment. Investigators believe the shooting was not a random act.
The Nova Scotia government says it is shelving legislation to consolidate the Town of Antigonish with the County of Antigonish. Municipal Affairs Minister John Lohr says the province cannot ignore the voices of residents who have spoken out against the move. Lohr’s announcement yesterday followed Premier Tim Houston’s tense public meeting Tuesday with about 500 people at the Heatherton Community Centre in Antigonish County. Houston’s comments were met with loud booing and yelling when he tried to defend the decision to consolidate that was made by both municipal councils.
U-S hurricane forecasters are predicting above-average activity this upcoming Atlantic Hurricane season.
Colorado State University predicts 23 named storms in total, with 11 of those becoming hurricanes.
The university blames high surface temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean, as well as El Nino conditions that will likely shift to La Nina.
