The federal Liberals are planning to table a motion in the House of Commons today that will get the ball rolling on increasing the capital gains tax.
The government says it wants to increase capital gains taxation to two-thirds, boosting the inclusion rate for individuals to 250-thousand dollars.
The higher inclusion rate will automatically apply to all capital gains earned by corporations, with Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland noting the move will improve tax fairness for Canadians.
Liberals have also argued for the increase, saying Canada needs to raise more revenue to pay for things like housing and health care.
