Pictou County District RCMP continue to seek information on the whereabouts of a man currently wanted on a province-wide arrest warrant.
45-year old Jeremy Llewellyn Nickerson of Antigonish is wanted and facing charges of Assault; Mischief Under $5,000; Fail to Comply with Release Order Condition; and Failure to Attend Court.
Nickerson is described as 6-feet and 299 lbs. He has brown hair, green eyes, and facial hair. He may be driving a black BMW that may be missing a front bumper. Police say no model or plate information is known at this point.
Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of Jeremy Llewellyn Nickerson is asked to refrain from approaching him and to call Stellarton RCMP Detachment at 902-755-4141; or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
The Province has launched a helpline for anyone looking for counselling in the aftermath of a weekend shooting in Halifax. It happened on Saturday night at the Africville National Historic Site of Canada where people had gathered for the Africville Family Reunion. Five people were taken to hospital after the shooting, including one person with life-threatening injuries, and police say no arrests have been made. The reunion brings together former residents, and descendants, of the historic Black community in Halifax’s north end that was demolished in the 1960s.
R-C-M-P in southwestern Nova Scotia are investigating a serious crash that happened while officers were doing traffic enforcement. The Mounties say it happened early Saturday when a vehicle was seen making an abrupt U-turn away from a traffic checkpoint near Liverpool. The Mounties say an officer left the checkpoint to try to stop the vehicle on Highway 8 but later found the car on its roof. The 24-year-old driver from Sable River was taken to hospital with serious injuries while the 25-year-old passenger from East Green Harbour suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Pro-Palestinian demonstrators briefly occupied a building at Halifax’s Dalhousie University on Monday. Outside, their protest encampment that had been on the school’s downtown campus since May was dismantled by staff and security. By Monday afternoon, the protesters had left the building and outside, their tents and signs had been removed. A Dalhousie spokesperson declined to comment on the encampment removal, and Halifax Regional Police did not immediately say if anyone was arrested or fined.
Monday was a big day for Canada at the Olympics. Star swimmer Summer McIntosh won gold in the 400-metre individual medley hours after Christa Deguchi won the under-57 kilogram judo event. Canada also grabbed a men’s diving bronze when Nathan Zsombor-Murray and Rylan Wiens finished third in the 10-metre synchronized platform. A tough loss though for Canada’s Women’s Basketball team, falling 75-54 to France. The men’s basketball team has a game today against Australia. Canada remains in the medal hunt in Olympic women’s rugby sevens, facing Australia in a semifinal today.
