Election Day is coming soon, and with that, nominations. For those interested in running for office in the Municipality of Pictou County, or Towns of New Glasgow, Pictou, Stellarton, Trenton or Westville; Nomination Days will begin by appointment August 29th through September 9th, The Returning Officer will be in each of the municipalities over that time period, but those looking to become a candidate from any of the six municipalities can visit her at any of the locations. R-C-M-P in Halifax say a 28-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing in the Beechville area.
Police say they received a report in the early hours of Sunday morning about a stabbing, and found that two men who are known to each other, were in a physical altercation and one man stabbed the other in the torso multiple times.
They say a 35-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Just before 1 a-m, police say they found the alleged assailant in the nearby woods and he was charged with attempt to commit murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
Hurricane Ernesto is heading farther out to the sea after the eye of the storm passed off the south coast of Newfoundland.
Meteorologist David Neil says Newfoundlanders dodged a bullet with the storm skipping over the province, but locals should still expect intense rain.
Forecasters expect it to weaken to a post-tropical storm as it passes by the region.
Earlier, Environment Canada said the storm was moving at about 50-kilometres an hour with maximum winds measuring 140-kilometres an hour.
The Kinsmen Club of New Glasgow has made a significant donation of more than $5-thousand in support of the New Glasgow Regional Police Bike Patrol. Officials say the donation with help further strengthen the trail patrol and increase safety in areas throughout the community.
