Gasoline prices rose slightly overnight in Nova Scotia while diesel prices went down. Gasoline prices rose by 7-10ths of a cent per litre. The minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline is now 158.8 cents per litre locally. Diesel prices decreased by 1.9 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for diesel at 170.2 cents per litre in the local area.

Nova Scotia’s health authority says the wait-list for those seeking a family care practitioner has dropped by 15-thousand people in four months. Figures released Thursday indicate there were 145-thousand people on the registry, compared with 160-thousand when the numbers were compiled on June 1st. The wait-list numbers are still far higher than the summer of 2022 when there were 100-thousand people hoping to be attached to a physician. Nova Scotia’s N-D-P leader is raising questions about the provincial government’s claim that 15-thousand people have found a family doctor in the past four months. Claudia Chender issued a statement yesterday saying it remains unclear how Nova Scotia Health compiled the numbers.
The Town of New Glasgow has appointed Ryan Leil as the new Chief of the New Glasgow Regional Police. Leil was sworn in as the Chief, following the retirement of former Chief Stephen Chisholm. Leil joined the New Glasgow Regional Police in 2004, and his contributions to the department and the Town of New Glasgow have spanned through various roles, including Constable, Detective Sergeant, Deputy Chief, Mentor, and Coach.
At the October 15 Council Meeting, Mayor Dicks and Council presented the Federal Police Exemplary Service Medals from the Governor General of Canada. Several members of New Glasgow Regional Police were recognized for their dedicated years of service:
• Sgt. Kelly Moore-Reid – 30 years total, 15 years with New Glasgow Regional Police
• Cst. David Fulton – 30 years, 16 years with New Glasgow Regional Police
• D/Sgt. Jason MacKinnon – 20 years with New Glasgow Regional Police
• Sgt. Darryl Paris – 30 years with New Glasgow Regional Police
• Sgt. Claire Corkum-Timmons – 20 years total, 13 years with New Glasgow Regional Police
• Chief Ryan Leil – 20 years with New Glasgow Regional Police
In the Maritime Hockey League, the Pictou County Weeks Crushers handed the Summerside Western Capitals their first regulation time loss of the season with a 3-0 win Thursday night.
