The General Assembly of the Nova Scotia Legislature will convene this week to elect a new speaker.
Newly re-elected Premier Tim Houston says the assembly will convene for just one day on Tuesday to elect the new speaker.
Houston’s P-C government was re-elected in the snap election he called for November 26th.
The Tories won a dominant victory, securing 43 seats in the legislature.
A streamlined licensing program to attract international pharmacists to Nova Scotia has drawn more than 100 applications. The Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists launched the program for pharmacists from the United States, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand last December in response to a shortage of pharmacists in the province. The change was made possible through the provincial Patient Access to Care Act, which waived the national licensing exam and internship period that is otherwise mandatory when internationally trained pharmacists come to practice in Canada. Since then, 102 pharmacists have applied to be licensed in Nova Scotia — 32 have their licences and 70 applications are in progress.
Statistics Canada says investors represented three in 10 residential property buyers in Nova Scotia between 2018 and 2020. The data, posted by the federal statistics agency on December 3rd, tracks the number of investment buyers in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and British Columbia over three years. Nova Scotia had the highest volume of investor buyers of residential property in that time, with an average of 28.2 per cent. In neighbouring New Brunswick, investor buyers averaged 20.3 per cent in the same period, and in B-C they averaged 24.8 per cent
The Winter Parking Ban is now in effect for the Town of New Glasgow and Town of Trenton.
Between 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. until April 1st 2025, vehicles must not be parked on a town street in both the town of New Glasgow and the Town of Trenton. Tickets can be issued and vehicles can be towed any time, day or night, if they are parked in a way that interferes with snow clearing.
The Marks family from Pictou County will be making a special “second chance” show appearance on Family Feud Canada. They were chosen from hundreds of families to return to the show for a second chance. Their air date is January 1st. They made their first appearance in November 2021.
