A Special Weather Statement remains in effect for much of Nova Scotia, including Pictou County, with significant snowfall likely Friday night into Saturday. Some areas could see as much as 15 to 25 centimetres of snow. An area of low pressure is expected to travel up the eastern seaboard and track south of Nova Scotia on Saturday bringing snow to the province Friday night into Saturday. Snowfall warnings will likely be issued for some areas on Friday.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau isn’t commenting publicly about Chrystia Freeland’s bombshell resignation as finance minister. He appears to be taking some time to reflect on her decision to quit earlier this week and on what the Liberal caucus had to say about his future. Now Canadians are waiting to see what he will do next amid renewed calls for Trudeau to step down or call an early election. A senior Liberal close to the prime minister says Trudeau is being presented possible paths forward, including proroguing Parliament to allow a Liberal leadership race to take place.
New Glasgow Regional Police say residents in New Glasgow have reported being approached at their homes by door-to-door salespeople. Police say it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish from scammers and legitimate sales, especially during the holiday period. Scams do increase during the holiday season and residents can protect themselves by being aware and by following some simple safety tips, such as remembering that when it seems too good to be true, it probably is; don’t open your door if you don’t feel comfortable; verify the business prior to agreeing to any transactions; and avoid being pressured to sign anything at your door.
The RCMP says that a 58-year-old man who was reported missing from Pictou Landing on October 1st has been located safe. The RCMP is thanking the public for assisting through social media shares and offering tips.
The speaker of the Nova Scotia legislature says an independent panel of senior government officials has been struck to review the remuneration paid to members of the House of Assembly. Danielle Barkhouse says the panel will look at compensation packages, including salaries, benefits, pensions, travel and constituency allowances. A freeze has been in place on provincial politicians’ pay, office budgets and living expenses since 2015.
Northumberland Ferries has announced an extension to its service for this season. Until December 22nd , which is Sunday, It will sail on a 4 round trip schedule leaving Wood Islands at 7:00am, 10:00am, 3:00pm, and 6:00pm; and from Caribou at 8:30am, 11:45am, 4:30pm, and 7:30pm. On Monday (December 23rd), sailings will go from Wood Islands at 7:00am and 10:00am, and from Caribou at 8:30am
