The Transportation Safety Board of Canada says it’s in the process of determining whether debris found on the runway of a Newfoundland airport is connected with a plane fire in Halifax over the weekend. A spokesperson says the debris was found on the runway at St. John’s International Airport on Saturday night but could not confirm whether it’s related to the aircraft in question. An Air Canada Express flight arriving from St. John’s experienced a rough landing on Saturday at Halifax Stanfield International Airport. The plane caught fire upon landing and was brought elsewhere on Sunday night for an investigation
The federal government says it expects to extend the deadline for claiming charitable donations on tax returns through to the end of February.
Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc’s announcement comes about a week after premiers across Canada called on Justin Trudeau’s government to make the move.
LeBlanc’s office says the timing is to ease the effects of the four-week Canada Post strike.
The department says the government will introduce legislation to make the changes once Parliament resumes in the new year.
Pictou County District RCMP are investigating the theft of an ATV from a residential property in Waterside. It was stolen sometime between December 12 and December 19.
