The Globe and Mail is suggesting Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will announce his resignation sometime over the next two days. Trudeau has faced increasing calls to step down as leader of the Liberal party, with mounting calls from MPs in his caucus and the public. The Globe report says it spoke with three sources who weren’t authorized to speak about the matter publicly. Those sources did not know a specific timeline, but say if he is going to announce his resignation it would be ahead of the national caucus meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
New Glasgow Regional Police have released further details regarding an incident last Thursday night. Shortly before 7:30pm, New Glasgow Regional Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a pickup truck on Duke Street Trenton. Police say the driver of the truck immediately sped off fleeing the scene. Within an hour, officers located the truck on Grandview Avenue Trenton, while the male suspect fled the area on foot. After further investigation, New Glasgow Regional Police located the man at a home in the 100 block on Duke Street Trenton and called in other police agencies and emergency services when it was determined there was a possibility of the man being armed and barricaded inside the home. Police closed off the area and told nearby residents to stay in their homes. The man who barricaded himself inside the home was found deceased shortly after 4:00am Friday.
New Glasgow Regional Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man involved in an incident on November 25th at the Shell Gas Station at 836 East River Road in New Glasgow.
Police say a woman was waiting to refuel her vehicle at the diesel pump when she was approached by a man who insisted he was next in line. When the pump became available, the woman proceeded to refuel her vehicle and the man returned, yelling aggressively, and physically holding the female driver’s vehicle door shut. She told him police were being called and he then struck the vehicle’s side mirror before driving off. Police say the suspect is a white male, in his early 60s with grey hair, glasses, wearing a red baseball cap, grey or brown jacket. The vehicle was a newer model, grey Mercedes-Benz, 4-door sedan. Anyone who has information or may have witnessed the incident is asked to call New Glasgow Regional Police or Crime Stoppers.
Domestic violence experts say Nova Scotia needs to do more to improve funding for programs that battle the root causes of intimate partner violence. The call to improve follows a series of deaths over the past three months, with the latest deaths on New Year’s Eve. Police say 39-year-old Matthew Costain shot and killed his girlfriend and her father before killing himself.
The premier was in Miami, Florida attending a conference of pharmaceutical organizations on the weekend. His office says he was there to talk about how Nova Scotia is providing some primary healthcare services through pharmacies. Premier Tim Houston and Allison Bodnar — CEO of the Pharmacy Association of Nova Scotia — participated in a panel discussion at the National Conference of Pharmaceutical Organizations. The premier also calls his trip to the southern state an opportunity to sell Nova Scotia and recruit talent to the province.
