There is a Special Weather Statement that’s in effect for Pictou County with Environment Sanada warning that large waves, pounding surf and elevated sea water levels are expected on north facing shorelines this afternoon, especially between about 2 P.M and 6 P.M. today. It says storm surge and minor coastal flooding is possible along shorelines exposed to the north, especially around high tide. Water levels will begin to subside this evening, but high waves will persist through tonight before easing by Saturday morning.

Gasoline prices and diesel prices both increased overnight in Nova Scotia. Gasoline prices increased by 3.2 cents per litre. The minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline is now 164.0 cents per litre in the local area. Diesel prices went up by 6.0 cents per litre, meaning the minimum pump price for diesel is 188.2 cents per litre locally.
The RCMP says a 38-year old Westville man, Nathan Timothy Hale, who was wanted on a province-wide arrest warrant, has been located and safely arrested. On Thursday, Pictou County District RCMP turned to the public for help in locating Hale. He is facing a number of charges, including Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm; six counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking; and seven counts of Failure to Comply with a Release Order. The RCMP is thanking the public for assisting through tips and shares on social media.
The RCMP says a 35-year-old man wanted in the deaths of two men in Nova Scotia has been arrested in New Brunswick. Police say officers in Truro received reports about two men, aged 25 and 27, going to hospital with serious stab wounds on December 19th. The 25-year-old died two days later after going into medical distress at his home in Upper Onslow, while the 27-year-old died December 22nd at his Truro home after some form of medical distress. A Canada-wide warrant had been issued for the suspect before his arrest.
A Halifax-area woman has been charged with manslaughter after a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run in Truro last June. The Truro Police Service says a 40-year-old man was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of King Street and Duke Street on June 28th. Truro Police say the accused turned herself in to police yesterday following a complex investigation. The woman has also been charged with failure to remain at the scene of an accident causing death and dangerous driving causing death.
Provincial officials are reporting a cybersecurity breach involving a computer system used to track school enrolment, attendance and grades. The Nova Scotia government issued a statement saying that on Wednesday, personal information of some staff and current and former students in the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education was stolen from the PowerSchool system. The widely used information system does not include medical information or financial data, such as credit card numbers. But it does include birth dates, addresses, allergy alerts, health card numbers, emergency contact information and whether a student has any adaptations.
