The Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit has charged two Pictou County men after recovering stolen vehicles.
Between January 7 and January 15, police located three stolen vehicles in Churchville and Scotsburn, and safely arrested two men involved the thefts. A 30-year old Abercrombie man, who police say was found in possession of break-in instruments and a sawed-off shotgun, has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime; Break and Enter; Mischief; and weapons and firearms related offences. A 24-year old Merigomish man has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime; Possession of break-in instruments; and Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.
Both men have been remanded in custody.
New Glasgow Regional Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a person involved in a disturbance on September 9th at the Pizza Delight on East River Road in New Glasgow. Police responded to a disturbance call in regards to a group of six patrons harassing a female staff member. Police say one of those customers touched the back of the staff member’s leg while she was placing plates on the table. While she was clearing the plates, the same individual touched her a second time at which point the group was asked to leave. Police say an argument ensued, and the man made derogatory comments toward the female staff member and threw a fork at her before leaving. The New Glasgow Regional Police have released a picture of the man and are asking for help in identifying him.
Gasoline prices and diesel prices both decreased slightly overnight in Nova Scotia. Gasoline prices decreased by 0.9 cents per litre. The minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline is now 166.5 cents per litre in the local area. Diesel prices went down by 1.0 cent per litre, meaning the minimum pump price for diesel is 197.1 cents per litre locally.
Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly is expected to make her case against damaging tariffs when she sits in front of U-S lawmakers next week in Washington.
Joly expects to meet with Secretary of State Marco Rubio in person and “other key Republican senators” during her fifth visit to the U-S since last November’s presidential election.
She says things on the tariff front are still in flux because President Donald Trump hasn’t confirmed his new commerce secretary.
Trump is threatening to impose 25 per cent across-the-board tariffs on imports from Canada starting on February 1st.
Nova Scotia member of Parliament Jaime Battiste officially joined the Liberal leadership race Thursday.
He says he knows he is facing steep odds in his bid to become Canada’s first Indigenous prime minister.
The 46-year-old member for Sydney—Victoria, who was first elected in 2019, says he is up for the challenge.
The party will choose a new leader through a national vote on March 9th.
