U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed that the U.S. take control of the Gaza Strip after Palestinians are relocated. Speaking alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a news conference, Trump said the U.S. would oversee the cleanup of dangerous explosives and rebuild Gaza, creating jobs and housing. He suggested the U.S. could hold a long-term ownership position, and send troops to secure the region. While Netanyahu supported the idea, Saudi Arabia opposed any plan to displace Palestinians permanently, emphasizing the need for a Palestinian state. Trump’s comments follow a proposal he made to resettle displaced Palestinians outside Gaza permanently.
