No change to U-S tariffs on Canada despite U-S President Donald Trump partially reversing course on his global trade war. The White House says the U-S’ so-called “reciprocal” tariffs are immediately lowered to 10 per cent for all countries. But Canada still faces fentanyl-related tariffs as well as duties on steel, aluminum and automobiles. Trump’s backing down on tariffs comes after days of market turmoil stoking fears of a recession.
On the federal election campaign trail, Liberal Leader Mark Carney took his promise of making Canada an “energy superpower” to the heart of Canada’s oil industry, campaigning in Alberta on Wednesday. The promise is to speed up the review process to greenlight major national energy projects.
Meanwhile, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre showcased his crime platform in northern Ontario, including harsher penalties for repeat serious offenders.
In Vancouver, N-D-P Leader Jagmeet Singh promised to fight for expanded pharmacare coverage of more prescription drugs.

Rent prices increased 2.4 per cent in Nova Scotia in March. The year-over-year rent growth brought rents in the province to an average of two-thousand-199 dollars. A new report says the national average asking rent in March was two-thousand-119 dollars, marking the sixth straight month of year-over-year declines. On a month-over-month basis, national average rents rose 1.5 per cent from February, the first increase since last September.

The Pictou County Weeks Crushers completed the sweep Wednesday night, beating the Truro Bearcats 2-1 in Game #4 to win the Eastlink South Division Final in four games. The Crushers will now face the Edmundston Blizzard in the Metalfab MHL Cup Final after they advanced by sweeping Campbellton to win the Eastlink North Division championship.
