The RCMP says ground and air search efforts were conducted Saturday and Sunday in Pictou County as the missing persons investigation into the disappearance of Lilly and Jack Sullivan continues.
More than 115 volunteer searchers from Colchester, East Hants, Eastern Shore, Halifax, Musquodoboit Valley, Pictou County, Pugwash, Springhill, Strait Area, Valley, and West Hants ground search and rescue and the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association focused on specific areas around Gairloch Rd. in an effort to locate Lilly and Jack and advance the RCMP investigation. The search followed a large-scale air and ground search that began on May 2 and was scaled back on May 7 in favour of more specific searches.
The RCMP say the weekend’s search will be carefully reviewed and assessed by investigators and search managers to help in planning any further ground and air search efforts.
A 29-year old Pictou County man is facing a court date in July after New Glasgow Regional Police responded to a single vehicle collision on North Provost Street in New Glasgow late last Thursday night. Police arrived to find a car parked in the middle of the road with flat tires and major damage as the vehicle had collided with a brick wall. Police say that during their investigation, the driver showed signs of impairment. The man was arrested and taken to the Police Station where he refused a blood drug demand. He was released from custody and is facing a charge of refusal.
New Glasgow Regional Police are seeking the public’s assistance in regards to a break and enter and theft that occurred in New Glasgow. The break-in at the New Glasgow Farmers Market on Glasgow Street was report on the afternoon of Friday, May 9th. Police say someone broke off the lock on a door and entered the Farmers Market canvas building and stole seafood from a freezer, other food items and a donation box with an undisclosed amount of money. Investigators have determined that the theft took place sometime between Wednesday May 7 and Friday May 9th. Anyone with information about the break-in and theft is asked to contact the New Glasgow Regional Police or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
The union representing Canada Post workers has informed management that employees plan to strike at midnight on Friday.
Canada Post says it received a strike notice Monday and that more than 55-thousand postal workers intend to walk — shutting down operations for the second time in six months.
The agency says the stoppage would affect millions of residents and businesses who typically receive more than two billion letters and roughly 300-million parcels a year.
A Canada Post spokesperson says no new items will be accepted until the strike ends, while those already in the system will be “secured” but not delivered.
