An update Wednesday from the RCMP saying that its intensive approach to the missing persons investigation into the disappearance of Lilly and Jack Sullivan continues. More than 11 Nova Scotia RCMP units are working on the missing persons investigation. The RCMP says investigators have collected hundreds of hours of video from the areas surrounding Lansdowne Station; formally interviewed 54 people; received 488 tips, many of which have been assessed and followed up on; extensively searched the property from which the children went missing; and been granted numerous judicial authorizations to seize and examine materials and devices that may provide information useful to the investigation. However, police say that the information gathered so far through the investigation has not identified new search areas.

At Tuesday’s June meeting of Trenton Town Council, it was announced that the Town of Trenton will be transitioning its policing services from the New Glasgow Regional Police to the RCMP. A Public Meeting is scheduled for June 25th with members of the RCMP, Department of Justice and Town Council in attendance to answer any questions and/or concerns from residents. All residents can attend the public meeting which will be on Wednesday, June 25th from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at Trenton Rink Annex.

A new opinion poll suggests a majority of residents in each Atlantic province are satisfied with their respective provincial governments. The Narrative Research telephone survey notes that in the past year, elections were held in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia — and there are now new premiers in New Brunswick, P-E-I and Newfoundland and Labrador. Satisfaction levels were above 60 per cent in every province, except New Brunswick, where it was pegged at 59 per cent. The survey in May drew responses from 400 people in Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotia’s Health Department says the province wants to get back into negotiations with the federal government on pharmacare. Ottawa passed legislation last year for a pharmacare program, but each province must individually sign a deal with the federal government to benefit. Pharmacare deals struck with some provinces and territories cover some birth control pills and IUDs, but not all forms of prescription contraception. Nova Scotia has its own pharmacare program, but several advocates say there are significant barriers to access.

The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson has died at 82. Wilson’s family posted news of his death to his website and social media accounts on Wednesday. He was the eldest of three musical brothers in the band, which included Carl and Dennis Wilson. The Beach Boys rank among the most popular groups of the rock era, with more than 30 singles in the Top 40 and worldwide sales of more than 100 million.
