Gasoline and diesel prices both increased overnight in Nova Scotia. The price of regular gasoline increased by 1.2 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at 140.4 cents per litre in the local area. Diesel prices increased by 5.0 cents per litre, meaning the minimum pump price for diesel is 141.7 cents per litre locally.

R-C-M-P officers investigating the disappearance of two children say “all scenarios” are still open in the probe. Corporal Guillaume Tremblay says that 11 sections of the Mounties are engaged in the investigation, including the truth verification unit — which carries out lie-detector tests on people being interviewed. Tremblay would not say if abduction is being considered as a possibility. Four-year-old Jack Sullivan and six-year-old Lilly Sullivan disappeared on May 2nd from their home in Lansdowne Station.

The Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs says the province’s failure to consult with First Nations on uranium exploration is a harmful mistake. Pictou Landing First Nation Chief Tamara Young says the Mi’kmaq people were not consulted or notified when Nova Scotia passed a bill that opens the province up to potential uranium mining and fracking. The province added uranium to its list of priority critical minerals on May 14th and issued a request for exploration proposals, with interested companies having until Wednesday to submit. On Thursday, Premier Tim Houston confirmed that no companies had come forward with a bid.

On Thursday morning, New Glasgow Regional Police, the New Glasgow and Trenton Fire Departments, Emergency Health Services and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) held a mock vehicle collision at North Nova Education Centre. The event was aimed at bringing awareness to the issue of impaired driving. Police say that the mock collisions help students visualize the impacts and consequences of impaired driving. According to MADD, young people have the highest rates of traffic death and injury per capita among all age groups.

In sports, The Stanley Cup final is down to a best-of-three. The Edmonton Oilers pulled even in the series with a 5-4 overtime victory in Game 4 at Florida. Sam Reinhart scored for the Panthers with 19.5 seconds left in regulation but Leon Draisaitl ended it with the O-T winner. Game 5 will be played Saturday in Edmonton.
