Because of the dry conditions we’ve seen this month, several municipalities have put water restrictions into effect.
Residents who use a well that has dried up can call the REMO hotline at (902) 485-3445 for assistance.
Municipalities with water restrictions in effect include:
Stellarton is now in stage three of its water contingency plan – no outdoor water use.
No person shall use water supplied by the Town of Stellarton other than for a domestic or commercial purpose. No person shall use water outdoors for any purpose.
This conservation order will remain in place until the water levels of the East River return to normal.
*** These restrictions also apply to Riverton residents who purchase their water from the Municipality of Pictou County
Westville has implemented voluntary water use reductions. These restrictions will remain in place 7 days per week until further notice.
• Sprinkling, watering or irrigating of shrubbery, trees, lawns, grass, plants, vegetables, flowers, etc. should only occur between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 a.m.;
• Filling or topping-up of pools should be avoided completely; and
• Private washing of motor vehicles should be avoided.
*** These restrictions also apply to residents of the Alma-Green Hill area who purchase water from the Municipality of Pictou County.
The Town of Trenton has implemented voluntary water use reductions.
Residents are asked to help by:
– Only water lawns, flowers, gardens, etc. between 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
– Avoid filling or topping-up swimming pools
– Avoid washing vehicles at home
These measures will be in place until further notice.
The Town of Pictou is asking residents to voluntarily reduce their water use. These measures will be in place every day until further notice.

Town of New Glasgow:
No restrictions currently in effect.
Provincial fire officials are keeping a close eye on a fire in the Annapolis Valley. Scott Tingley, manager of forest protection, says the Long Lake fire is expected to grow. It is spread over nearly 20 square kilometres and moving toward West Dalhousie Road in Annapolis County. The fire has forced the evacuation of about 100 homes in the heavily wooded West Dalhousie area.
At about noon on Friday, New Glasgow Regional Police responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Marsh Street and Washington Street in New Glasgow. The collision involved a car and a motorcycle. The 16 year old driver of the motorcycle was taken by EHS with non life threatening injuries to the Aberdeen Hospital. New Glasgow Regional continue to investigate and ask anyone with information, video or dash cam footage of the incident to contact New Glasgow Regional Police or Crime Stoppers.
The union representing Air Canada flight attendants says its workers will remain on strike despite pressure from the federal government in the form of a back-to-work order.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees says it has filed a challenge in Federal Court disputing the order from the Canada Industrial Relations Board.
The federal government intervened in the labour dispute on Saturday, less than 12 hours after flight attendants initiated their strike.
Air Canada cancelled hundreds of flights again on Sunday and has postponed the resumption of flights with the hopes of restarting operations tonight.
