Officials say firefighters in Nova Scotia remain focused on the northern side of the Long Lake wildfire in the Annapolis Valley.
The blaze is the largest in the province and measures roughly 32 square kilometres.
The fire has not significantly changed in size between Tuesday and this morning.
Andrew Mitton, with Nova Scotia’s Department of Emergency Management, says 61 structures in the vicinity have been outfitted with sprinklers as a form of fire protection.
Nova Scotia farmers will have access to additional support to increase their supply of water. The provincial government has committed an additional 475-thousand-dollars under the on-farm water management program that supports water projects like wells and ponds. The money will be used to fund all existing eligible applications and enable a second call for applications under the program. Minister of Agriculture Greg Morrow says the funding will help farms become more resilient in dealing with the impacts of climate change.
About one-thousand professors, librarians and other teaching staff are locked out by Atlantic Canada’s largest university.
Dalhousie University locked out its employees Wednesday amid a contract dispute with the faculty association.
The faculty association has said the main issues in the dispute are wages and the university’s reliance on limited-term contracts.
The school says while its decision “has not been made lightly,” it locked out professors after it offered them salary increases of two per cent per year, over three years.
The tentative agreement that ended the Air Canada strike will be voted on by flight attendants next week.
The airline is still scrambling from the strike that shut down its Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge services for three days.
Air Canada is offering full refunds or credit for future travel to customers whose flights were cancelled between the start of the strike and this coming Saturday, if they can’t get a flight on another airline.
The airline has cautioned that it will take several more days to return to full, regular service because of maintenance checks and repositioning aircraft and crew.
