It’s back to school today for students at schools with the Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education and across the province.
New Glasgow Regional Police and the RCMP are offering some safety tips as the new school year begins.
There will be increased traffic in school zones with pick-ups and drop-offs areas, so police ask that drivers and students use caution and be aware. .
School zones are 30 km/h when children are present, when the approaching limit is 50 km/h. .
Red lights flashing on a bus means you must stop. It is illegal to pass a stopped school bus when red lights are flashing. Flashing amber lights mean you need to get ready to stop.
It will be busy to give yourself extra time and be patient.
It is a time for celebration, so be cautious of what you post online and limit personal information about your child’s school and other personal information.
New Glasgow Regional Police responded to a two-vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon on East River Road in New Glasgow. The driver of one of the vehicles, a 47-year-old woman from Halifax, was arrested at the scene for impaired driving by drug. A search of her vehicle saw officers seize a quantity of cocaine, scales, and packaging material. Two passengers from that vehicle, a 43-year-old Halifax man and 44-year-old Halifax woman, were also arrested. No one was injured in the collision.
The Town of Stellarton is advising that it’s in Stage 2 of its Water Contingency Plan – Alternate Day Water Use.
Under that plan:
On even calendar days, even number addresses are permitted from 6am to 11am and from 7pm to midnight to:
– Sprinkling, watering or irrigating of shrubbery, trees, lawns, grass, plants, vegetables, flowers, etc.;
– Filling or topping of pools;
– Washing of motor vehicles.
Odd number addresses are permitted to do those things on odd calendar days from 6am to 11am and from 7pm to midnight:
The conservation order will remain in place until water levels of the East River return to normal. Should water levels continue to degrade, it is possible that Stage 3 water restrictions may be required.
