RCMP have charged a man with attempted murder after an assault in Debert.
On Sunday afternoon, police responded to a report of an altercation between two men outside of a home in Debert. When RCMP officers arrived, they found one man with life-threatening injuries — but the other had fled before police arrived.
The victim was taken to hospital by EHS.
At about 1:00am Monday, police arrested a 26-year old Debert man at a home in Debert. Investigators do not believe this was a random incident; the victim and suspect are known to each other.
Atlantic Canada housing ministers gathered with their federal, provincial and territorial counterparts in Vancouver this week to talk about tackling housing and homelessness. The meeting comes amid a shortage of affordable housing in Canada and the severity of homelessness from coast to coast. The ministers committed to renewing the federal, provincial and territorial housing partnerships to ensure ongoing support for affordable housing once bilateral agreements under the national housing strategy expire in 2028.
A new report says the impact of a cyberattack on Nova Scotia Power in the spring could be bigger than originally thought. The province’s electric utility says all 550-thousand of its customers may have been affected in some way by the March attack, instead of the roughly 277-thousand it previously said. The privately owned utility says hackers may have stolen customer information including names, birth dates, email addresses, driver’s licence numbers as well as bank account numbers and social insurance numbers. Nova Scotia Power submitted its report Friday to the independent Nova Scotia Energy Board on Friday, which is investigating the breach.
After 15 years at the helm, Nova Scotia Community College President and Chief Executive Officer, Don Bureaux, has announced he has accepted a new leadership opportunity. His final day at the College will be February 27, 2026. He will transition into his new role as President and CEO of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce in March 2026.
The College’s Board of Governors will begin the process of searching for a new president and CEO. Details regarding the search process will be developed in the weeks ahead.
The New Glasgow 150 International Town Criers Competition is being hosted in Downtown New Glasgow from September 18 – 21st. It’s part of the town’s 150th Anniversary celebrations. The event will welcome town criers and their consorts from across Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States. Throughout the event, criers will showcase their skills through traditional proclamations, heritage-themed cries, and celebratory performances, with judging based on voice, clarity, and showmanship.
