Nova Scotia R-C-M-P plan to announce charges today resulting from a four-year investigation into allegations of sexual assaults at a youth correctional facility. In July 2023, the Mounties confirmed they were investigating at least 70 cases of alleged sexual assault at the Nova Scotia Youth Centre in Waterville. At the time, they said the investigation had started in early 2019 and the complaints related to alleged assaults between 1988 and 2017. At the time, all 70 cases involved males, but the Mounties were expecting more people to come forward.
Details are expected today in the agreement between Dalhousie University and its faculty association.
The two groups released a joint statement yesterday, saying they had reached a tentative agreement.
Key issues on the bargaining table include wage increases and flexible class schedules.
Classes are set to resume Tuesday.

Freeland says she is leaving politics with gratitude and a little sadness after 12 years in public office.

Statistics Canada says that’s thanks to some stubbornness at the gas pumps, with gas prices rising 1.4 per cent month-over-month.
Gas prices were still down compared with last year, but the decline fell short of July’s drop, so that pushed the headline inflation figure higher.
StatsCan says it was a mixed bag at the grocery store, with the cost of groceries rising 3.5 per cent annually.
Nova Scotia’s inflation rate was 2.2 percent in August.
