U-S alcohol producers are accusing Canadian liquor boards of giving local spirits an unfair edge on store shelves.
The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States says provinces like Nova Scotia apply much lower markups to local liquor than imported products, sometimes by more than double.
The group claims the pricing breaks World Trade Organization rules and the United States-Mexico-Canada trade deal, and has asked U-S trade officials to intervene.
Nova Scotia’s liquor corporation says the pricing reflects public support for local producers, while U-S distillers warn sales in Canada have dropped sharply since tariffs began.
